I have just finished reading Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler.  He is the best writer within murder mystery I think.  I have read quite few books which is based on murder mystery, but I tend to guess who the murderer is.  His stories are a bit complex, and I could never guess what had happened until the very end when main character Philip Marlowe finds out himself.  I like the way the main character, detective Philip Marlowe is completely independent, charming, cheeky, but thoughtful.  He only works for people who are genuinely in need of help, and never a follower of money or power.  I don’t think I’d ever find any other murder mystery as good as his books.  I have read The Long Good Bye and Big Sleep so far. And I have a Lady In The Lake in my book shelf to follow!  Reading in English is a bit slow for me, but It’s quite good practice!

I like the penguin books cover design too.  I want all his books in this cover before they change them!

昨日、大いなる眠りというレイモンドチャンドラーの本を読み終わりました。レイモンドチャンドラーという作家は、ミステリー作家の中でもベストの人だと私は思ってます。（ハードボイルド作家とも呼ばれるみたいですね。）元々ミステリーは好きで、色々読みましたが、読みすぎなのか、大体は中盤で犯人がわかってしまったり、勘があたってしまったりします。でもチャンドラー作品は複雑で、怪しい人がわんさか出てきて、最後に主人公のフィリップ　マーロウが謎解きするまで全然わかりません。

フィリップ　マーロウというのはなかなかいいキャラをしていて、インディペンデントの探偵なのですが、お茶目で、ちょっと生意気で、でもとっても優しい人です。いつもお金や権力に惑わされる事なく、助けが必要と思われる人だけを助ける、粋な探偵さんで、登場人物同士の人間関係もとっても興味深いものです。

ミステリー物でチャンドラーより面白い作品なんてないと惚れ込んでいますが、他にもいい作品があるのなら知りたいなあ。今の所、ロンググッドバイと大いなる眠りを読みました。次は湖中の女、というのを読む予定です。英語で読むのは時間がかかるのだけど、いい勉強になります。

ペンギンブックスから出ている本の表紙デザインも大好きで、デザインが変わらないうちに全部集めたいなあと思ってる所です。

I went running today, I’ve managed to run for an hour the first time!  Back in April, when I first started it, I got out of breath after 10 minutes or so.. So I am so proud of myself!  Running is so refreshing.  It keeps me healthy and  happy.

今日、初めて１時間まるまる走りました。４月にはじめたときは１０分で息切れしていたのに、やればできるものです。最初は辛かったけど、今は走ることで健康でいられるし、ハッピーでいるためのちょっとした日常です。

近所の素敵な教会。

I fell over the other day.  I was having  shower, and tried to reach the face wash that was outside the shower room, and landed on my ribs.  Luckly I didn’t break any bones, but I have a red bruise and it’s a little scabby too.  I haven’t had this big scab since I was little.  I felt a bit sorry for myself…

数日前に転びました。シャワーを浴びてる途中で、シャワー室の外にある洗顔料をとろうとして転倒。あばらを床に打ちつけた。幸い骨折などには至らなかったけれど、赤いあざができて、大きなかさぶたもできました。小さい頃はよくかさぶた作ったけれど、大人になったらあまりありませんね。子どもに戻った気持ちになり、少し涙がでました。

I went to the zoo again.. with a friend of mine and her little boy(3years old).  I thought he would really like the zoo, but he was more into the playground, the only thing he liked was a tiger which was asleep.  But I really love this kid, he is so cute.  Anyway.  Some photos.

今週のこと。

動物園に行ってきました。友人と、その子ども、３歳と。動物園って子どもは好きかなと思ったのだけど、彼は併設されてる公園のトランポリンに夢中。まともに見た動物といえば虎くらい。しかも虎、寝てたし。

でもこの子好きなんだよなぁ。可愛くて、憎めない３歳児です。

突然、ヒロミを通じて友人の訃報を聞いた。

信じられなくて、２，３日くらくらしてたけど

今日やっぱり彼が亡くなってしまったんだって思う。

生きていることが奇跡ってくらい死はすぐそこにあって

彼の笑顔が幸せにしたであろう沢山の人のことを思う。

すぐそこにいたのに。
